Social Media: Creating Killer Content
In the previous article, Social Media: Measuring the Competition, we covered the very essential need to scout out and measure your competition. Knowing that information and keeping track of your own progress on a month-to-month basis helps to put and keep things into perspective. It also feels freakin’ awesome when you see your performance start to pond the snot out of those other guys!
But now that you are all pumped up to curb-stomp the competition, you have to get really active on social media in order to grow your reach. One of the things you will need to get really-really active on social media is lots and lots of content. And to jump-start your social media campaign of getting the word out about you and your company, you will need to create social media ready content quickly!
Find & Create Killer Content for Social Media
First, no we are not talking about just making some Facebook posts or tweeting on Twitter to get things started. No, you will need to create lead-generating content that lives on your website. This sort of content is what will actually make your social media activities have an important impact on your business and your bottom line.
On the other hand, we are not suggesting that you must publish 1,000 posts, videos and infographics in the next 30 days either (although it might not be a bad idea to really get things started). But you do need lots of content and you need it fast! Interestingly enough, you do not have to reinvent the wheel here either, make lemonade out of lemons by using what you already got access to. All you need to do is to dig down deep into the dark recesses of your marketing materials, including your website and spin it into social media friendly content.
Here are some ways of generating social media content in a snap:
- Guest Bloggers – Find them, reach out to them and get them on your team!
- Curate Content – Find good content that others have created and re-post it (with permission of course)!
- Conduct Interviews – Find subject matter experts and let their expertise blow your audience away!
- FAQs – Jot down answers to frequently asked questions!
- Publish Excerpts – If you already have whitepapers or ebooks, use them!

But don’t forget to also gather up visual content for your social media too. Particularly on Facebook and Pinterest, images, graphics and videos are what capture the attention of your potential audience. In fact, people absolutely love clever images and videos which will drive your social media presence to soar when you publish such content. And that is just the sort of engagement that will crush your competition!
