Business Blogging 101

In the Web Redesign 101 articles and in the Brand Building 101 articles, it was mentioned several times that businesses should seriously consider having a blog if they do not already have one.  It was also briefly explained why; so this time around, lets take a more in-depth look at blogging for business and what it can do for you.

But first, it should be noted that this is an introductory level series of articles meant for those who are new to blogging for business.  These articles will include step-by-step instructions that will help get you started with the basics.  After reading these articles, you will be able to use basic marketing techniques related to blogging for business.

Some valuable information:

  1. Almost 40% of all businesses in the United States use blogs/blogging for marketing purposes.
  2. Businesses that blog get 55% more visitors to their website.
  3. Business-to-Customer (B2C) companies that blog get 88% more leads per month than those that do not.
  4. Business-to-Business (B2B) companies that blog get 67% more leads per month than those that do not.
  5. 71% of customers stated that blogs influenced their buying decision.

What would any business related article be without some concrete facts to back it up?  Well these facts really speak for themselves and clearly shows that blogging is an absolutely essential piece of the inbound marketing pie.  In other words, this single practice can directly equate to a lot more business for you!

However blogging alone will not dramatically transform your website into an unstoppable juggernaut of sales.  Your blog also needs to be optimized for search engine performance, it has to be promoted and it has to have valuable content.  How often you blog can also have an impact as well.  For example, several studies conducted by various marketing firms have concluded that posting an article 20 or more times per month has the greatest return in website traffic and ultimately leads.

But keep in mind that a blog is a long-term asset and takes time (and effort) to develop with content.  Yet with consistent effort, that content will grow and the boost it will give your website traffic is enormous, not to mention that your leads will increase too.  It also establishes you and/or the folks in your business as leaders in your industry; people visiting your site and reading your blogs will sooner or later begin building trust in you, your business and your brand.

This series of articles (blogs) will walk you through, step-by-step, what you need to know and do in order to have a successful blog and begin reaping the benefits (and rewards) of this incredibly valuable marketing strategy.
