25 Tools To Increase Website Traffic Part 12
Welcome back! The previous article in this series titled, 25 Tools To Increase Website Traffic Part 11, covered using LinkedIn to drive high-quality traffic to your website. That article encouraged you to use your LinkedIn account to help build on your marketing efforts by utilizing it to post content and promote your business. And it also emphasized the point that if you do not have a profile as well as a company page on that social media platform, you need one!
But that is just one more tool to use to your advantage. There are many more to cover, but specifically since we have already touched up social search, and rich site snippets, let’s take a closer look at how you can affect those attributes in SERP. Ideally, you would need a way to use this to help to drive even more highly-qualified traffic to your website. You’re in luck; there is a way!
#12 – Implementing Microdata
Well you may be thinking to yourself, ‘WTF is Microdata?!’ Microdata is information (i.e. Metadata) that is nested in HTML tags within web content. Search engines, search engine spiders (aka web crawlers or bots) and web browsers can extract this information and use it to create a richer user experience. In layman’s terms, it is simply a method of adding some tags to HTML to make it easier for stupid machines to understand what your web page is all about.
Implementing Microdata will not necessarily increase website traffic on its own, but it makes it easier for a dumb bot to understand the difference between say the blockbuster hit movie Avatar and those little graphics called avatars someone uses on say an online forum. Even a young child knows the difference, but our computers do not. As such, it makes it a lot easier for these not-so-intelligent machines to find, index and KNOW what your website pages are actually all about.
Machines are dumb. Computers are dumber. Smart Phones are even dumberer! Web bots, spiders, crawlers, search engines and web browsers are all dumber than a box of rocks too! Microdata is a means for explaining in simple, easy-to-understand terms, to all these dummies what your website and specifically your web content is all about.
The benefit is that your website is indexed properly and therefore comes up ranking pretty high for your intended purpose in SERP. Another huge benefit is that by using something like Schema for SEO is that it results in better rich site snippets that get displayed along with links in SERPs, which inadvertently can greatly improve click-through rates (i.e. more traffic)!
