25 ways to increase website traffic

In the previous article, 25 Tools to Increase Website Traffic Part 9, we covered recruiting Guest Bloggers to create awesome content for you.  And why not?  It is an excellent opportunity for someone to reach a wider audience as well as bringing their audience to your website (i.e. more website traffic); it’s a win-win situation for all concerned.

But then that leads to the eventual question of “what about referral traffic?”  Or in other words, the act of seeking (begging?) other websites to link back to you which may send some traffic your way.

#10 – Getting Referral Traffic

Getting referral traffic can be a time-consuming, tedious and rather frustrating project, full of delays, butt-kissing and rejection to put it bluntly.  That is not to mention that it is also the “old-school” of thinking about linking.  It can be a fruitless venture of begging others to link back to your website and trying to sell them on the idea of how it would benefit them.

However, when you create content that people WANT to read, it makes the others come to you or they just link back to you.  There is no tedium, begging or butt-kissing involved when you approach it from this angle!

Just as an example, RVHWD owner Charles wrote an article in 2014 titled “Public Relations and Diversity” which caught a lot of attention on various social networks.  The article was linked back to by a number of other websites and a few even asked permission to republish it.  Granted, it was not his first time writing an article that was widely published, but the resulting number of referrals or link-backs (and the resulting significant spike in website traffic) was most impressive.

Create great content that simply begs to be linked back to, so you don’t have to!

Summary

Begging for referral links from others is a waste of time and effort.  It is time-consuming, it is tedious and it tends to be rather frustrating as well.  To put it mildly, it is so “1990s!”

But, when you create juicy content that people want to read and are talking about it, the referrals will come to you begging to link back to it or even republish it!  That will save you whole bunches of time to crank out even more great content that changes the whole paradigm of referral linking.
