Yes, you read that correctly, WordPress now features an automatically scaling admin panel for mobile users.  The admin page will not adjust to the screen size and resolution of the computer or device, making the administration of a blog on the go, so much easier to manage.

Along with the improved admin interface, this newest version also features for the first time, drag-n-drop uploading of media to blogs as well.  No longer is it required to follow the traditional method of uploading, making the administration of a blog much more intuitive.

Of course the best part of all is that all River Valley Hosting & Web Design clients have their WordPress sites upgraded for them!

As always, River Valley Hosting & Web Design customers that have had their WordPress blogs/sites designed by us have been updated automatically without the customer even having to ask about it.  How’s that for convenient?  We always appreciate and take care of our customers!

Also, WordPress 3.1.2 features some additional bug fixes that were previously not addressed in 3.1.1.  No matter what version of WordPress you are using, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to the latest stable version for the best security.

One of the many value-added services that River Valley Hosting & Web Design offers is that our WordPress clients do not have to worry about completing these updates.  The update was released and by 11AM EST this morning, all of our clients have completely updated blogs!

When I first met Steven and his wife Kristie in June, we rapidly developed a rapport and the ideas started flowing shortly thereafter for this web development project.

Initially, our efforts were focused on updating Steven’s logo, to give it a more modern feel while maintaining the alien motif established for his business for many years.  For the logo update, I simply served as a consultant, offering advice while a third party graphic designer provided this service.  Once the multitude of choices were narrowed down, it was up to Steven and Kristie to make the final decision.

With the logo revamped, the next step was developing a graphical layout concept that integrated one of the new logo designs.  The design layout was not quite what Steven was looking for, so we went back to the drawing board after another brainstorming session.  The second design layout was much closer to what he was looking for, but it was still missing that special something to really make the new look of Out Of This World Entertainment’s website pop.  But the third time was in fact a charm!

Before going back to the electronic drawing board, we took a look at a number of different templates similar in layout but offering a bit more in the visual appeal department.  When Steven found the look that he really liked, it was time to nail the project down with editing images and modifying layouts to make it all fit seamlessly.  The finished product again uses commercially available template images, but it has been highly customized to meet client expectations.  The end results of which are visually appealing with it’s mix of modern fonts and Victorian imagery, constructed on a WordPress platform, taking full advantage of social media widgets, Web 2.0 technologies and some good old-fashioned SEO.

Other services provided during this project include the creation of a favicon based on the new OOTWE logo, the creation of several streaming Flash videos, embedding a few other videos and finally providing web hosting services too.

What else could possibly be said?  Working with Steven has been a distinct pleasure, both personally and professionally.  We developed a creative synergy early on and this web development project took on a life of it’s own; I almost feel as if I were simply along for the ride as he was brimming with ideas.

In the coming weeks, I will start working on the first web development project for Columbia Discount Computers.  This web development project involves converting one of their many “town hall” websites into a WordPress blog-based website on our web hosting server.  As the project progresses, additional sites will also be converted in the same fashion while adding a number of SEO, social media and web 2.0 technologies to greatly increase web traffic.

But on a different note, one small addition to this website to further customize the user experience is the addition of an animated favicon.  Granted it is not really that big of a deal, but I do like it; it looks cool hanging out up there in the corner of the web browser.  The most difficult part about adding a favicon to a website is getting it working in as many different web browsers as possible.  But that can be a project all in itself because even the last three versions of Internet Explorer do not display things the same way, much less getting it to work in Firefox, Opera and so on.

On to the next stage of development!
