As usually happens every month or every other month, WordPress has had another update. The latest version (3.3.1) was released to fix a security issue and 15 minor bug fixes; so be sure to update your blogs as soon as possible. And as we have been doing in the past, each of our managed WordPress accounts have been already updated, so that our clients can focus on what they do best.

WordPress 3.3

There has been a recent upgrade to the WordPress platform to 3.3. This latest version offers a number of improvements and features that make it noteworthy as well as well worth the time to upgrade. Of these new and enhanced features, the self-sizing admin screen will make mobile users extremely happy.

Yes, you read that correctly, WordPress now features an automatically scaling admin panel for mobile users. The admin page will not adjust to the screen size and resolution of the computer or device, making the administration of a blog on the go, so much easier to manage.

Along with the improved admin interface, this newest version also features for the first time, drag-n-drop uploading of media to blogs as well. No longer is it required to follow the traditional method of uploading, making the administration of a blog much more intuitive.

Of course the best part of all is that all River Valley Hosting & Web Design clients have their WordPress sites upgraded for them!

WordPress 3.2.1

WordPress has been updated once again to fix some minor bugs and a security issue. Along with this update, there are also a number of plugin updates too; most notably being the WordPress Import plugin, some of the shopping cart plugins and even a few theme upgrades. But you will need to be careful, some clients have reported that simply updating everything without first running a backup can be disastrous. In fact, the more you blog, the more you should be backing up your work.

As always, River Valley Hosting & Web Design customers that have had their WordPress blogs/sites designed by us have been updated automatically without the customer even having to ask about it. How’s that for convenient? We always appreciate and take care of our customers!

WordPress 3.2

Just within the past few days, WordPress has made a few updates. The most current version is 3.2 which features some bug fixes and a number of security updates. This newest version also offers an updated look for the administration side of the blog too. As a courtesy for our great web hosting and web design clients, all WordPress websites have been upgraded already!

WordPress 3.1.2

Just within the past few days, WordPress has released the updated version. WordPress 3.1.2 is the most current release of the platform and is a security fix. Previously, Contributor level users could possibly publish posts improperly.

Also, WordPress 3.1.2 features some additional bug fixes that were previously not addressed in 3.1.1. No matter what version of WordPress you are using, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to the latest stable version for the best security.

Lastly, some of the plugins have been updated recently as well. Be sure to log into your standalone blog soon to see if there are any updates available for your blog or plugins.

As an added benefit, all design clients with River Valley Hosting & Web Design will have their blog-site updated for them.

WordPress Updates to 3.1

Recently WordPress released the latest version (3.1) of the standalone script that is set up on private hosting accounts. This recent update improves overall security as well as helping to eliminate some spamming of blogs. Additionally, there are a number of plugin updates that coincide with this upgrade too. WordPress blog owners will need to make sure that their blogs are backed up before upgrading as well as going through and making sure that all plugins are current.

One of the many value-added services that River Valley Hosting & Web Design offers is that our WordPress clients do not have to worry about completing these updates. The update was released and by 11AM EST this morning, all of our clients have completely updated blogs!

New Web Hosting Client

One of the biggest things I have been working on is picking up new web hosting clients since the beginning of the new year. The first step in realizing that goal has been working on a deal with a local computer company, Columbia Discount Computers. River Valley Hosting & Web Design will be taking over all of their web hosting and web design needs in 2011. The first step in that process is moving the Columbia Consolidated Fire Department website over to the RVH server. Naturally this is the ideal first step since my company is already providing web development services for the fire department.

In the coming weeks, I will start working on the first web development project for Columbia Discount Computers. This web development project involves converting one of their many “town hall” websites into a WordPress blog-based website on our web hosting server. As the project progresses, additional sites will also be converted in the same fashion while adding a number of SEO, social media and web 2.0 technologies to greatly increase web traffic.

New Web Server

Well here it is 2011 already and we are almost completely set up on our new web server too! Actually all of the sites are live on the new (and FAST) server and we are working on upgrading/completing our website to include a client area for customers to administrate their web hosting account. Another feature is that the billing will all be switched over to an automated system and is tied into a traceable trouble ticket system, a knowledge base directory and more. Finally, the current Frequently Asked Questions section of the website will be integrated into the client area as well as being tied into tutorials and other interactive tools.

But wait, that’s not all…

…As time and opportunity present themselves, there will be a growing number of video tools added to the site too! These videos will walk you through everything from setting up an account to creating your own email accounts in cPanel and just about everything in between. Server Maintenance

On Friday, 5 November 2010, River Valley Hosting & Web Design sent out an email notice to all current web hosting customers. The purpose of this notice was first and foremost to let each customer know how much their business is appreciated. It was also notify all current customers that there will be web server maintenance conducted during the late night hours over the course of the next two to three weeks and should not adversely affect normal website operations. The purpose of this website maintenance is to run complete backups of all websites and hosting account files in preparation of a server migration to take place in December 2010.
